In sub-Sahara Africa, the school attendance rate is amongst the lowest in the world--only six in ten eligible children make it as far as primary school.  According to UNICEF, young women in Sub-Sahara Africa miss 1/4 of school days or drop out completely due to menstrual products being unavailable or unaffordable. These girls are much more likely to marry early and contract AIDS, thus continuing the cycle of poverty.

Love, Period Inc. is a non - profit UF organization that strives to provide an equal opportunity to young women in Africa by providing them with essential tools to attend school. One of the main ways in which we do that is by donating feminine hygiene products to girls so that they do not have to miss school due to their menstrual cycle. In the past 2 years, we have been able to donate items to over 300 young girls in Sub - Saharan Africa.

As the former Secretary and Community Service Coordinator for Love, Period Inc. my tasks included:

  • Helping provide aid and awareness to over 100 young girls in Sub-Saharan Africa by providing them with necessary feminine products to obtain an education.

  • Developing and executing community service projects by planning events, and co-programming with other organizations that aided and enriched the University of Florida/ Gainesville community.

  • Collaborating with local organizations to provide volunteer opportunities where students from the University of Florida could aid their community.

  • Establishing the administrative work procedures for tracking each staff member’s tasks and the delegation of hygiene products for 307 girls in Uganda.
