Gatorship

"I am no longer accepting the things I cannot change. I am changing the things I cannot accept."

- Angela Davis

Gatorship is a diversity leadership retreat where students at the University of Florida interact through team building activities and group discussions around identifying current leadership issues in a multicultural society both at the university and in the community. It is designed for students who want to learn how to make UF a more inclusive environment by challenging them to take what they learn at the retreat and apply it in their lives.

Gatorship taught me more about diversity, how to be inclusive, and allowed me to hear and learn the stories and experiences of people from different backgrounds, culture, and beliefs. It taught me how to be a more open - minded and diverse individual who strives to obtain equality and equity for all people. My Gatorship experience taught me what it meant to be heard but also what it means to listen. It taught me that it is possible to respect someone even if you have different viewpoints. Most importantly, Gatorship taught me the significance of the platinum rule - treating others as they would want to be treated. This rule has helped me become a more compassionate, open - minded individual who actively listens to others and is working towards making the world a more inclusive and equal place.
